I was loading groceries into my SUV outside the Macomb Public Library on Main Street, Western Illinois, around 7:15 p.m. Friday when I realize I must have left a box of holiday decorations behind. The box held fragile glass ornaments, a garland with red berries, and a string of warm-white lights I bought after my grandmother passed away. They’re not just décor; they’re memories. I retraced my steps through the library parking lot and the sidewalk along Main Street, but the night was cold and noisy, and the box was gone. I lost my breathing inhaler on Thursday while running errands in Western IL. I think I dropped it while reaching for my phone.
