Grey dwarf hamster found near Hy-Vee in Worthington

Southwest MN Found listing Posted 6 months ago

Description

I found a tiny grey dwarf hamster this afternoon around 3pm behind the Hy-Vee on East Main Street in Worthington, a town in Southwest Minnesota. It's about the size of a ping-pong ball, with a white belly and a dark stripe along its back. It was wearing a blue nylon harness, looks like a PetSafe brand, with a tiny bell that jingles when it moves. It seems healthy but a bit rattled from being out on the sidewalk. I’m keeping it in a calm cage with water and a bit of carrot, hoping to reunite it with its owner who can describe the harness and the stripe. If you’re missing a hamster, tell me where you last had it and a couple of identifying details like the harness color or the white belly patch.

How to safely return this item

A short checklist to protect you and the item during the handoff.

Verify the owner before handing it back
  • Ask the claimant for a specific identifying detail before confirming.
  • If valuable, ask for a photo with matching ID, receipt, or original packaging.
  • Never post the precise location publicly. Share it only with a verified owner.
  • Do not accept payment to return it. That is a red flag for a scam claim.
Meet in a safe, public place
  • Police stations, café entrances, transport hubs, and shop foyers all work.
  • Meet during daylight hours where there is CCTV and foot traffic.
  • Avoid private homes, car parks at night, or isolated locations.
Bring someone with you
  • Tell a friend or family member where you are meeting and when.
  • Share your live location with them during the handoff.
  • For high-value items, consider contacting your local police station for advice first.
