I was finishing a late set at the Solomons Island Lighthouse Cafe, and I must have left my guitars by the stage door around 8:45 p.m. as the crowd drifted away and the marina lights reflected on the water. I retraced every step, checked with the bartender, and even peeked behind the amps, but they’re gone. The two guitars—a sunburst Fender Stratocaster with a small chip on the edge and a well-worn acoustic with a red strap—were the tools that kept my songs honest as I played along the Patuxent.
