I found equipment for various sports along the riverfront path near North Platte's downtown park at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday. A navy duffel bag held a soccer ball, tennis rackets, shin guards, a baseball glove, and a whistle on a lanyard. It’s the kind of kit that means weekend practices, after-school leagues, and a little team pride. I pictured the player rushing back after practice, probably frustrated and worried, and felt a surge of relief at the thought of reuniting them with their stuff.
