Found: Holiday Decorations in Mattoon
I was walking home from the Mattoon Public Library around 5:42 PM yesterday when I spotted a box tucked behind a bench near the Mattoon train depot. It was labeled 'Holiday Decorations' and smelled faintly of pine, with a jumble of garlands, lights, and fragile ornaments spilling out. A ribbon clung to the tinsel as I picked it up, and my heart eased knowing someone’s things were safe, even if momentarily forgotten. I carried the box to the little plaza by the depot and set it on the bench, hoping the owner would see this listing. If these are yours, please use the site to claim them and I’ll guide you to the right place.
Navy blue North Face puffer jacket with orange lining
I lost my navy blue North Face puffer jacket yesterday around 3pm near the Mattoon Public Library on Main Street. It's a size M, water-resistant, and has a bright orange inner lining that shows a bit when the zipper is halfway down. The zipper pull features a small red heart charm, and there's a faint scuff on the left sleeve from a fall last week. This jacket has sentimental value—it's the one I wore the day my grandmother passed, and I really need it back. If anyone found it, please reach out; I’m hoping it turns up soon in Mattoon-Charleston.

Black leather briefcase with brass latch
I'm hoping someone found my black Briggs & Riley leather briefcase with a brass latch. I last saw it yesterday around 3pm outside the Mattoon Public Library on S 9th Street; it's a 14-inch laptop briefcase with a small scratch on the lower corner. Inside there's a red microfiber laptop sleeve and a brass name plate that says 'M. Harper'. It was a gift from my dad, and there are some family notes and a few career sketches in the pocket, so it really matters to me. If you found it, I'd be so grateful to get it back.
EIU student ID card lost near campus
Hey there, I lost my Eastern Illinois University student ID card yesterday around 3pm. It’s a white plastic card with the EIU logo and my photo, a little worn around the corners and with a tiny scratch near the bottom edge. I must have dropped it somewhere between the library on Lincoln Ave and the Student Union entrance, maybe near the campus bookstore. On the back there’s a tiny red sticker with a fox doodle—super easy to spot if you spot the card. This card gives me access to dorms and campus buildings, so I really need it back before finals. If you found it, please drop it at the Mattoon-Charleston Lost & Found or message me here. Thanks!
Silver-tone hoop earrings with emerald bead, found near library
I found a pair of silver-tone hoop earrings with a tiny emerald-green bead this afternoon around 3:15pm in the parking lot behind the Mattoon Public Library on Main Street. Blue tortoiseshell Ray-Ban glasses with silver hinges
I lost my blue tortoiseshell Ray-Ban glasses yesterday around 3pm near the Java Jolt coffee shop on Main Street in Mattoon-Charleston. They're mid-sized, acetate front with silver hinges and clear lenses. The left temple has a tiny engraving inside that reads 'PP', and there’s a small scratch along the bottom corner of the left lens.
