Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in London, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around London and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for London so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Blue leopard gecko in glass terrarium

I lost my blue leopard gecko yesterday around 6:15pm. It’s a tiny reptile, about 3 inches long, blue-green with yellow spots along the back and a pale belly, tucked inside a clear 12x12x18 terrarium on the kitchen window ledge when it slipped out near the heat lamp. Last seen around Borough Market on Southwark Street in London SE1, I think it wandered into the gap behind the fridge or around the brick wall near the Market entrance. It has a tiny white scar on the base of its tail and a chipped scale on the left hind toe—two little features that stand out. I’m really hoping to get it back; it’s a rescue pet and means a lot to my family.

Bearded dragon, orange-beige, 9 inches

Hey, I lost my bearded dragon yesterday around 3pm near Borough Market and Southwark Street in London. It's an orange-beige bearded dragon, about 9 inches long, with a dark stripe along its back and amber eyes. There’s a tiny white scar at the base of its tail and a faint blue line running along the spine—unique enough to spot. I've had it since it hatched; it's really sentimental to me and I'm desperate to have it back. If you spotted it sunning on a wall near the Tate Modern or Millennium Bridge, please message me—I'll be incredibly grateful for any help.

Lost black Cocker Spaniel with blue harness

I'm devastated after realizing my black Cocker Spaniel, Bella, slipped her blue harness and bolted yesterday around 3pm near Covent Garden. She's a medium-sized girl, about 14 inches tall, with a glossy black coat and a tiny white patch on her chest. She wears a bright blue harness with a lime-green reflective stripe and a small round ID tag that reads 'Bella'; there’s a tiny scar on her right hind leg from a garden mishap. I last saw her around Neal Street, by Covent Garden's Royal Opera House, and she’s usually friendly but gets anxious in crowds. If you spot her, DM me or email [email protected] — I’d be so grateful to have her back.

Lost small brown dachshund named Milo with red collar near Camden Market.

I lost my small brown dachshund named Milo while walking around Camden Town. He slipped out of his harness and ran off towards the market area. If anyone sees him, please let me know; he has a red collar with my phone number on it.
