On Friday at 6:45 pm I was warming up for a recital outside the Cavern Club on Mathew Street when my sheet music binder slipped from my bag and I lost it amid the bustle. The blue binder is worn, with a red cover and a pencil tucked in the spine. It holds the pieces I’ve practiced for weeks, pieces I need for Sunday’s rehearsal, and tonight I’d barely started when it disappeared. The streetlights glittered on the River Mersey and I felt a knot in my stomach. I’m hoping someone nearby picked it up and will hold onto it for me; it feels like a piece of my heart is missing.
