Brass pocket watch with ship engraving
Found a brass pocket watch this afternoon around 2:45pm in the parking lot behind the Safeway on the Sterling Highway in Soldotna, Kenai Peninsula. It's about 2 inches across, with a warm brass patina and a small leather fob attached to a short tarnished chain. The back has a decorative ship wheel engraving and the inner lid bears an inscription: 'To M.L. from Dad 1968.' The glass on the face is cracked and the hands are stuck, so I can't tell if it still runs. It feels like a genuine antique collectible, possibly a family keepsake. If you know who this belongs to, drop a note with any details you remember.
Vintage Alaska commemorative coin set in brass display
I lost my vintage Alaska commemorative coin set yesterday around 4pm in the Fred Meyer parking lot on the Kenai Spur Highway in Soldotna, Kenai Peninsula. It’s tucked in a small brass display case about the size of a paperback, with a cracked glass lid and a green velvet lining; inside are five coins from the early 1900s, silver-toned with the Alaska state seal, some tarnish, and one coin with a faint 1905 date. A tiny compass engraving on the lid is a unique feature. It’s sentimental to me because it was my grandfather’s hobby, and I’d really appreciate getting it back if anyone happened to find it.
