Lost something on public transport?

How to track down an item left on a bus, train, tram, or taxi by contacting the right transport operator.

Items left on buses, trains, trams, and taxis around Ithaca are usually handed in to the operator's lost property team — the trick is contacting the right one quickly.

  1. Identify the operator. Note the route, line, or company and the rough time. Each operator runs its own lost property process.
  2. Submit a lost property report. Use the operator's online form or phone line as soon as possible; recovered items are logged against your description.
  3. For taxis and rideshare, contact the driver or company directly through your booking or app receipt.
  4. Keep your reference. Save any report number so you can chase it up.
  5. Post a listing. Add a listing for Ithaca in case a fellow passenger picked it up.

Lost paintings in Ithaca, near Ho Plaza

Hi, I’m Daniel Brooks. I’m feeling anxious after realizing my two paintings never made it out of my studio last night. It was around 7:42 p.m. on Tuesday when I left them leaning against the wall outside the Johnson Museum’s entrance, just off Ho Plaza, while I rushed to catch the bus. The canvases are fairly large: one shows a stormy lake, the other a sunlit field—both are my own work and signed in the corner. I’m hoping someone found them and kept them safe. Please reach out through the site if these look familiar; I’d be grateful to arrange a pickup on or near Cornell’s campus.

Lost sandals near Ithaca Commons

Last night around 7:30 p.m., I was walking back toward the Ithaca Commons after a long shift at the student center. I kicked off my sandals on the brick steps outside the Ithaca Bakery on Green Street, right by the little fountain near the bus stop. A gust of wind must have swept them away, because when I looked up, they were gone. They’re my go-to pair—soft, with worn leather and a slim blue strap—perfect for everyday comfort. I’m hoping someone picked them up and set them aside, because I’d hate to start my weekend without them.

Lost radios near Ithaca Commons area today.

I’m Daniel Rivera. At 2:15 p.m. on Saturday I realized my two handheld radios were missing from my backpack while I was taking a break near the Ithaca Commons. I’d just chatted with a vendor by the Ithaca Farmers Market stand and set them down on a bench near the trolley sculpture. I retraced my steps along the pedestrian street, checked the bus stop near DeWitt Park, and asked a few passersby, but I didn’t find them. They’re essential for coordinating a volunteer event, and I’d be grateful for any information through the site.

Lost holiday decorations in Ithaca

I realized my holiday decorations went missing after a small get-together at my apartment on Court Street around 6:15 PM last Sunday. I had set out garlands and a box of ornaments on the dining room table, and I must have left them there when I tidied up. They mean a lot to me because some pieces were family heirlooms, and I’m really hoping they turn up. If you saw a collection of bright red and gold ornaments around Court Street, please think of me.
