Found an item? Your responsibilities

What to do when you find someone else's property — your responsibilities and how to return it safely.

Found something in Evansville? Handling it responsibly protects both you and the owner. Rules vary by location, but the principles are consistent.

  1. Make a reasonable effort to find the owner. Check for ID, contact details, or anything that identifies who it belongs to.
  2. Don't assume it's yours to keep. Keeping found property without trying to return it can have legal consequences. When in doubt, hand it in.
  3. Hand valuables to the authorities. Report significant or high-value finds to the police non-emergency line for Evansville; they'll log it and may issue a reference.
  4. Store it safely. Keep the item secure and unchanged while you try to return it.
  5. Post a found listing. Add a found-item listing for Evansville with enough detail for the real owner to identify it — while holding back one verifying detail.

Found Carry-ons in Evansville

I was walking home from a late shift in downtown Evansville when I found two carry-ons sitting on a bench by the Riverfront near Ford Center around 3:20 am on Saturday. They’re black with a few scuffs on the corners and no obvious name tag. I slid them into a safer spot at the Intermodal Center and waited to see if someone would claim them. If these bags belong to you, I hope this helps you get back on the road soon.

found item: Wild and Domestic

I was walking along Riverside Drive near the Evansville Riverfront around 9:20 a.m. on Tuesday when I spotted a small notebook tucked under a park bench. It bore the title Wild and Domestic and looked recently used. I picked it up, kept it safe in my bag, and brought it here in case the owner sees this listing. If you recognize it, please reach out through the site so we can reunite you with your things.

Found adapters on Evansville riverfront

I was walking back from the riverfront trail near the Tropicana Evansville at about 5:15 p.m. last Friday when I spotted a small black pouch tucked under a bench. Inside were several adapters—USB-C, an HDMI dongle, and a couple of spare plugs. It looked like someone was in the middle of a project and must have left it behind in the bustle of the riverfront crowd. I’m posting here to reunite these adapters with their owner. If this sounds like yours, please reply through the site and we’ll arrange a safe meetup near the riverfront. I know how frustrating it is to lose tiny parts that matter.

Found: Trading Cards near the Ford Center, Evansville

I was walking along the riverwalk behind the Ford Center at 11:15 this morning when I spotted a neat stack of trading cards lying under a bench. The stack looks like a mix of baseball and fantasy cards, some in protective sleeves and a few bent from being shuffled around. They clearly belong to someone who cared for them, and I felt a little tug to help get them back to the owner. I posted this here to help reunite them with their rightful owner.

Found: Concert tickets and backstage passes near Evansville riverfront

Found a pair of concert tickets and a purple backstage pass this afternoon around 4:15pm in the parking lot behind the Ford Center on Riverside Drive in Evansville. The tickets are white with electric blue borders, standard two-stub style, for a local indie band called Midnight Echo performing that night. They list Section GA, Row 5, Seats 42 and 43; one ticket has a small coffee ring near the corner and a blue star sticker by the barcode. The pair also includes a purple lanyard with a detachable pass that reads 'Backstage Pass' in white and has a tiny holographic dragon sticker. Lanyard is a bit frayed at the clip but the whole set is intact. If this might be yours, reach me at [email protected].

Found silver Dell laptop with pink sticker

I found a silver Dell laptop this morning around 9:15am in the parking lot behind the Evansville Central Library on Library Plaza near Main Street. The lid has a pink heart sticker and there’s a small coffee stain near the palm rest. It boots up to Windows and shows a lock screen with a wallpaper that hints it’s someone’s work or school device, so I’m hoping to get it back to its owner quickly. The charger is in the bag with it, a black brick with a frayed cord. If this belongs to you, please reach out with a photo of the lock screen wallpaper or the pink sticker so I can arrange a safe pickup.
