Lost something on public transport?

How to track down an item left on a bus, train, tram, or taxi by contacting the right transport operator.

Items left on buses, trains, trams, and taxis around Western IL are usually handed in to the operator's lost property team — the trick is contacting the right one quickly.

  1. Identify the operator. Note the route, line, or company and the rough time. Each operator runs its own lost property process.
  2. Submit a lost property report. Use the operator's online form or phone line as soon as possible; recovered items are logged against your description.
  3. For taxis and rideshare, contact the driver or company directly through your booking or app receipt.
  4. Keep your reference. Save any report number so you can chase it up.
  5. Post a listing. Add a listing for Western IL in case a fellow passenger picked it up.

Lost enamel pins in downtown Galesburg

On Friday around 11:15 a.m., I was downtown in Galesburg near Main Street and Seminary Street, helping set up a charity pop-up near the old post office. My lanyard snagged on a railing, and I must have knocked a few enamel pins off when I crouched to tie a banner. They weren’t on the board by the time I finished packing; I’m sure they spilled into the street. The pins are sentimental: a Knox College mascot, a tiny heart, and a city map—each one a reminder of the people I’ve met here in Western Illinois. If you found them, please leave them at the information desk or send a note through the site.

Lost Avians in Western IL.

I was leaving the Western Illinois University campus in Macomb around 5:45 PM on Tuesday when two small birds slipped from my grip and disappeared into the trees by the University Union. They’re friendly—one is a pale grey cockatiel with a bright yellow crest, the other a green parakeet with a red cheek patch. I’ve checked nearby yards and asked a few neighbors, but there’s no sign of them. If you spotted two birds near the Macomb Town Square or along Lincoln Road, please share what you saw through the site—I’m hoping they’re close and safe.

Lost travel visas in Western IL near WIU

This morning, around 7:00 AM, I realized my travel visas were missing after I left a folder on a bench outside Macomb Public Library, a short walk from the Western Illinois University campus. I had been finishing a study session and stepped out for a quick phone call; when I came back, the folder was gone. The documents inside are my essential travel visas and related paperwork for a trip next month, so I’m stressed about replacements and delays. I’m hoping someone found them and turned them in at the library desk, but I’m holding onto the memory of the moment they disappeared.

Lost synthesizers on WIU campus, Macomb

I lost my two synthesizers Saturday at 2:45 p.m. outside the Western Illinois University Student Union on the Macomb campus in Macomb, Illinois. One is a black modular with a dented silver panel; the other is a white keyboard synth with a red sticker and some wear on the edges. I've spent the day retracing routes between practice rooms and the quad, already worrying about the gigs I’m arranging with local players if I can't find them. They’re not just gear to me—they’re my sound, and I’d be grateful to have them back so I can keep making music here in western Illinois.

Lost lamps in Western IL, Illinois, United States.

I’m Kelsey Martinez, and I’m hoping these two lamps turn up where I last remember them. On Tuesday around 8:45 PM I was leaving the WIU University Center and headed toward the Macomb downtown area, realizing my two desk lamps were still in my apartment when I got home. They’re mismatched but beloved: one brass base with a cream shade, the other a black base and a slightly taller shade. They’ve been my late-night study companions for a couple of years, and the thought of them staying behind is hard. If you’ve seen them around the Macomb downtown, please help me by letting this post be seen before exam week. Thank you.

Lost sculptures near WIU campus

I was wrapping up after a late Friday sculpture show on the Western Illinois University Macomb campus around 4:25 p.m. when I realized my sculptures were missing from the pedestal outside the Multicultural Center, near the campus quad. The set includes three pieces: a small bronze horse, a carved oak figure, and a white plaster bust about 12 inches tall. They mean the world to me - these pieces were gifts from my late mentor, and losing them feels personal and unfinished. I last saw them at 4:10 p.m. and then stepped inside the library; when I came back, they were gone. If you saw anything around WIU's quad or near the south entrance to the library, please keep an eye out.
