Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Wausau, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Wausau and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Wausau so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Lost Wild and Domestic in downtown Wausau

Hi, I'm Avery Cole. I lost my Wild and Domestic on Tuesday around 5:45 PM near Riverside Park's gazebo by the Wisconsin River. I had just left the park after a walk and coffee without packing it back, and I realized it wasn’t in my tote. It’s a small paperback with a green cover and a sticker peeling on the back. My heart sank; I retraced steps along the riverwalk and called out the title to the joggers passing by the old train bridge. I must have dropped it on the cement path near the Riverside Park entrance around 5:30–5:45. If you found it, it would mean the world to me to have it back.

Blue harness with red name tag

I lost my blue Rabbitgoo dog harness, size medium, with bright reflective stripes and a red enamel name tag reading 'Milo'. I last wore it yesterday around 6pm while walking near the library on Main Street in downtown Wausau, close to the bike path by Grand Avenue. The harness is blue with neon orange stitching at the D-ring and has a small tear near the left shoulder strap, plus a tiny scuff on the buckle. Milo is a rescue and this harness means a lot to us; it was a gift from my sister and has sentimental value. If anyone found it, please text me—I’ll come pick it up as soon as possible. Thanks so much.

Bearded dragon, juvenile with blue-tipped tail

I lost my juvenile bearded dragon yesterday around 3pm near Riverfront Park footbridge on 1st Street in downtown Wausau. He's about 4 inches long, with tan and olive-green bands and a bright blue tip on his tail. He has a faint scar on his left front leg from a recent shed, and his beard darkens noticeably when he's stressed. I had him in a small enclosure with a white heat lamp; I must have left him behind during a quick stop near the riverwalk. This little guy means a lot to me, and I'm really hoping someone picked him up and kept him safe—he's been part of my life for about 7 months. If you spot him, please message me in the app and I’ll get to you as soon as I can.
