Lost your phone? Step-by-step recovery

Carrier contacts, Find My / Find My Device, and the local steps to recover or secure a lost phone.

Losing your phone in Sacramento is stressful, but acting quickly improves your odds of getting it back and limits the damage if it's gone for good. Work through these steps in order.

  1. Locate it remotely. Use Find My (iPhone) or Find My Device (Android) from another phone or computer to see the phone on a map, play a sound, and mark it as lost. Lost Mode locks the device and shows a contact message on the screen.
  2. Lock and message it. If it's nearby, the sound may be enough. If it isn't, enable Lost Mode and add a phone number where you can be reached.
  3. Call your carrier. Report the phone lost so they can suspend service and block the IMEI. This stops anyone running up charges and flags the handset across networks.
  4. Change key passwords. Update your email, banking, and social passwords, especially if the phone wasn't locked. Sign the device out of those accounts where you can.
  5. Report it locally. File a report with the police non-emergency line for Sacramento — a crime reference number is often required for insurance claims.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-phone listing for Sacramento so anyone who finds it can reach you privately.

Keep checking the map periodically — a phone that's off may reappear when it's charged.

Rose-gold iPhone 13 with cracked corner

I lost my rose-gold iPhone 13 yesterday around 3:15pm in Midtown Sacramento. It’s in a slim pink silicone case, with a small dent on the bottom-right corner and a tiny koi fish sticker on the back. I last remember walking along K Street near the Golden 1 Center, near the coffee shop by the California State Capitol, and I must have dropped it as I stopped to check a map. It means a lot to me—there are family photos and work messages on it, and I’m really worried about losing it for good. If anyone found it, please email me at [email protected]; I’d really appreciate getting it back.

AirPods Pro with black charging case, lost near Capitol

I lost my AirPods Pro with the black charging case yesterday around 3pm near the Starbucks on L Street, right by the California State Capitol in downtown Sacramento. The case is matte black with a small scratch on the back and has the initials 'P.P.' engraved on the lid. One earbud has a slight dent near the charging contact and a faint scuff on the stem. They were a gift from my sister, so they mean a lot to me and I’m really hoping to get them back. If you found them, please message me—I can meet up near City Hall or Capitol for a safe handoff.

Lost black Sony Bluetooth headphones with a small scratch on the left earcup and charging case left at a café in midtown Sacramento.

I accidentally left my black Sony Bluetooth headphones at a café in midtown Sacramento last Saturday. They have a small scratch on the left earcup and come with a charging case. I realize how easy it is to overlook them when the bag is packed up quickly, but I'm hoping to track them down because they have sentimental value.
