Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Rochester, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Rochester and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Rochester so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Lost Breeds in Rochester, please help.

I lost my Breeds this afternoon. I was walking from my apartment near Eastman Theatre toward the riverfront, along the High Falls overlook, when I must have set it down on a bench around 6:15 p.m. yesterday. The item is a small binder labeled Breeds, full of sketches and notes about different dog breeds, plus a few doodles. It’s important to me because I’ve been compiling this project for months, and the pages mean a lot. If you found a binder on or near the bench by the Genesee River overlook, I would be grateful to have it back.

Leopard gecko lost near Eastman Theatre

Hey, I lost my leopard gecko yesterday around 5:30 pm near the Eastman Theatre on Gibbs Street in Rochester. It’s about 4 inches long, tan with bold black spots and a pale orange belly. The tail is slightly curved, and there’s a tiny crescent-shaped scar on its right hind leg. I’ve had him since last year, and he’s my only pet—he’s part of my evening routine and I’m really worried he’s wandering somewhere out there. If you’ve seen a gecko roaming around that area, or if someone brought one in, I’d be grateful for a message here; I’m happy to meet anywhere in Rochester to pick him up and bring his terrarium.

Lost friendly fluffy-coated rabbit named Cotton in backyard in Rochester.

I lost my little rabbit, Cotton, in my backyard in Rochester. He’s very friendly and loved to hop around, but I didn’t notice he got out until it was too late. He has a fluffy coat and a tendency to explore, especially if there are any new smells. Please help me find him!
