Lost something on public transport?

How to track down an item left on a bus, train, tram, or taxi by contacting the right transport operator.

Items left on buses, trains, trams, and taxis around North Jersey are usually handed in to the operator's lost property team — the trick is contacting the right one quickly.

  1. Identify the operator. Note the route, line, or company and the rough time. Each operator runs its own lost property process.
  2. Submit a lost property report. Use the operator's online form or phone line as soon as possible; recovered items are logged against your description.
  3. For taxis and rideshare, contact the driver or company directly through your booking or app receipt.
  4. Keep your reference. Save any report number so you can chase it up.
  5. Post a listing. Add a listing for North Jersey in case a fellow passenger picked it up.

lost student ID near Montclair Center

I was wrapping up a study session outside Montclair State University Library in Montclair at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday when my student ID must have slipped from my pocket. The card bears my photo and the school logo, and without it I can’t access the dorms or campus facilities until I replace it. I retraced my steps through Montclair Center and checked the benches by Walnut Street Station, but the card didn’t turn up. Finals week is stressful enough without worrying about losing access, and I’d be grateful to get it back.

Lost: Wild and Domestic at Hoboken Terminal

I was waiting for the 7:15 train at Hoboken Terminal this evening when I realized my copy of Wild and Domestic wasn't in my backpack. It's a paperback with a blue cover and a coffee ring near the back—pretty worn from daily use. I had just finished a quick chat with a friend by the newsstand before we parted ways to catch our trains, and I must have left it on a seat or in my tote. Losing it feels like losing part of my routine, and I’m hoping someone picked it up and kept it safe until I can get back there.

Lost multi-sport gear bag in Montclair YMCA

I lost my multi-sport equipment bag after leaving the Montclair YMCA on Bloomfield Avenue around 7:40 p.m. on Sunday. Inside were shin guards, a tennis racket, a pair of running shoes, and a basketball—things I rotate through for practices and pickup games. I’m frustrated with myself for misplacing it, but I’m hopeful someone picked it up and left it safe for me to reclaim via the site. If found, it would mean a lot to get my routine back on track.

Lost puppies near Paramus Park Mall, NJ

Last Saturday around 4:15 p.m., I was walking near Paramus Park Mall in North Jersey when my two puppies slipped from their harness and darted into the street. They’re small, tan and white with a tiny blue collar, and my heart dropped watching them vanish into the crowd. I’ve retraced the blocks along Route 4 and asked a few neighbors in the Paramus Park area, but I haven’t seen them since. I’m hoping someone who spotted them will help reunite us.

Lost drapes near Bloomfield Ave, Montclair

This past Sunday around 7:15 PM, I noticed my burgundy drapes were missing from the living room of my apartment on Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair. They are long, lined drapes with a subtle damask pattern and sturdy wooden tiebacks. I had just moved a bookshelf and think I may have left the window open as I hurried back from the Montclair Bread Co. near Lackawanna Plaza. They are part of my apartment's warm feel; I feel unsettled and hopeful they will surface somewhere nearby.
