Lost your phone? Step-by-step recovery

Carrier contacts, Find My / Find My Device, and the local steps to recover or secure a lost phone.

Losing your phone in London is stressful, but acting quickly improves your odds of getting it back and limits the damage if it's gone for good. Work through these steps in order.

  1. Locate it remotely. Use Find My (iPhone) or Find My Device (Android) from another phone or computer to see the phone on a map, play a sound, and mark it as lost. Lost Mode locks the device and shows a contact message on the screen.
  2. Lock and message it. If it's nearby, the sound may be enough. If it isn't, enable Lost Mode and add a phone number where you can be reached.
  3. Call your carrier. Report the phone lost so they can suspend service and block the IMEI. This stops anyone running up charges and flags the handset across networks.
  4. Change key passwords. Update your email, banking, and social passwords, especially if the phone wasn't locked. Sign the device out of those accounts where you can.
  5. Report it locally. File a report with the police non-emergency line for London — a crime reference number is often required for insurance claims.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-phone listing for London so anyone who finds it can reach you privately.

Keep checking the map periodically — a phone that's off may reappear when it's charged.

Black JBL Charge 4 speaker with orange strap

I lost my black JBL Charge 4 speaker yesterday around 3pm near the Millennium Bridge by the Tate Modern along Bankside in London. It's a rugged portable Bluetooth speaker, about the size of a small loaf of bread, with an orange fabric strap attached to the top and a tiny dent on the bottom edge. The back panel has a faint coffee stain from a quick break while I was setting up for an outdoor rehearsal. It felt like a lifeline for weekend trips, so I’m really hoping someone picked it up and can return it. If you see it around South Bank, please reach out here so I can collect it.

Black Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones with green sticker

I lost my black Sony WH-1000XM4 wireless headphones yesterday around 3pm. They were near the Covent Garden Royal Opera House, outside the entrance on Bow Street, maybe by the bus stop on Catherine Street. The headphones are in good condition but have a small dent on the right earcup from a fall last month. There's a lime-green sticker with the initials 'PR' on the headband, a unique feature that should help identify them. They came with a grey fabric carrying case with a red zipper. They are really sentimental to me, they were a gift from my sister and I really need them back for daily commutes; if someone found them, I would be grateful to hear from you so we can arrange a drop-off at the Covent Garden Lost & Found.

Lost black leather phone case with detachable wrist strap and unique stickers at a café in London.

I lost my black leather phone case with a detachable wrist strap while visiting a café in London. It was last seen on the table by the window around 3 PM on Tuesday. The case has a few unique stickers on it, which make it quite distinctive. If someone finds it, I would really appreciate getting it back, as it’s a special gift from a friend.

Lost silver Seagate portable hard drive near the rose garden bench in Hyde Park containing irreplaceable files and sentimental videos.

I was in Hyde Park on Wednesday and believe I left my silver Seagate portable hard drive on a bench near the rose garden. It contains irreplaceable files and sentimental videos that I haven't backed up elsewhere. I remember packing my bag but must have forgotten to put it in before leaving. If anyone finds it, I would really appreciate getting it back.
