Found an item? Your responsibilities

What to do when you find someone else's property — your responsibilities and how to return it safely.

Found something in Florida Keys? Handling it responsibly protects both you and the owner. Rules vary by location, but the principles are consistent.

  1. Make a reasonable effort to find the owner. Check for ID, contact details, or anything that identifies who it belongs to.
  2. Don't assume it's yours to keep. Keeping found property without trying to return it can have legal consequences. When in doubt, hand it in.
  3. Hand valuables to the authorities. Report significant or high-value finds to the police non-emergency line for Florida Keys; they'll log it and may issue a reference.
  4. Store it safely. Keep the item secure and unchanged while you try to return it.
  5. Post a found listing. Add a found-item listing for Florida Keys with enough detail for the real owner to identify it — while holding back one verifying detail.

Found: Trading Cards near Duval Street

I found a binder of trading cards this morning around 10:30 am, tucked beneath a bench near Duval Street by the Key West Bight Marina in the Florida Keys. The collection looks cherished—cards from different eras and a few well-loved sets peeking out from sleeves. I left them where I found them and posted here in case the owner is nearby and missing them as much as I would be. If these belong to you, please check the site for a reply and we can figure out the best way to reunite them.

Found USB drives in Florida Keys

I found several USB drives this evening, around 6:10 pm, on Mallory Square in the Florida Keys. They’d spilled from a small black pouch I saw on the ground, and I picked them up before a passerby trampled them. The drives are a mix of black and silver, some labeled with Vacation 2024, some with Work, all with a few work documents and travel photos. I tucked them into a safe pocket and kept watch as the crowd swirled around the sunset. I know someone will be relieved to see them again through the site.

Sunburst Taylor GS Mini found with sea-turtle strap

I found a sunburst Taylor GS Mini acoustic guitar this afternoon around 3:15 pm behind Sloppy Joe's on Duval Street in Key West. It's a compact 22-inch guitar in decent condition, with a blue seashell sticker on the pickguard and a reef-themed strap. The back has a couple light scratches, but it sounds bright when I strummed a quick chord. This instrument seems to belong to a local musician or visitor who surely has it for sentimental value, and I'm hoping to get it back to its owner.

Found Anker 20000mAh power bank in Key West

I found a black Anker PowerCore 20000mAh portable charger this morning around 10:15am near Mallory Square in Key West. It’s in good condition with a slight chip on the bottom corner and a blue USB-C cable plugged into the port. There’s a small pineapple sticker on the back and the battery indicator shows two lights. It looks like it belonged to someone traveling through the Florida Keys, so I’m hoping to get it back to its owner. If this is yours, DM me with the color of the attached cable and the sticker detail to verify and we can arrange pickup near Duval Street or the ferry terminal in Key West.

Navy blue 28-inch suitcase with red tag

I found a navy blue 28-inch hard-shell suitcase this afternoon around 2:45pm in the parking lot behind Sloppy Joe's on Duval Street, Key West. It's a Samsonite brand with a bright red luggage tag that has the initials 'KG' scratched on it, plus a small tropical-sticker set on the corner. The case shows a few scuffs from travel but the wheels roll smoothly and the zippers are intact. I can only imagine someone worrying about it—it's clearly been on a long trip and probably holds clothes and maybe some travel keepsakes. If this is yours or you know who it belongs to, I’d love to help get it back to you.
