It sits in a small glass display case with a red velvet lining and a brass latch; the case is about the size of a small paperback. The compass itself is brass with a dark patina, about 2 inches in diameter, and it's engraved on the back with the initials 'J.P.' and has a tiny dent in the rim. It was part of my late grandfather's collection, and it's really sentimental to me—I’d be heartbroken to lose it.

I found a mid-century walnut coffee table this afternoon around 4:15 pm, tucked near the Fitger's complex on East Superior Street in Duluth. It’s about 40 inches long and 18 inches wide, with slender brass hairpin legs and a glass top over the wood. The finish is warm and shows a few scratches plus a faint water ring, and there’s a tiny chip on the underside edge that only shows when you flip it over.
