I was leaving a rehearsal at my studio around 5:30 p.m. on a drizzly Monday in Derby, Derby, United Kingdom. My two synthesizers rode in a black hard case with a blue strap, tucked under my arm as I walked toward Market Place. Somewhere between the Derby Cathedral steps and the bus stop, the case must have slipped or been knocked away by the crowd, and by the time I looked back, it was gone. The sounds those keys make are my current project and lifeline; I keep hearing the echoes in my head. I’m desperate to have them back.
