Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Boulder, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Boulder and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Boulder so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Lost Breeds collection near Pearl Street Mall, Boulder

Last Tuesday around 7:50 p.m., I realized my Breeds notebooks were gone. I had just wrapped up a volunteer shift and was strolling along the Pearl Street Mall, behind the Boulder Public Library, when I must have set them on a bench near the fountain. I circled back along the Creek Path toward the Commons, but they weren't there. Those notebooks hold breed profiles and notes I use for rescue work, so losing them feels personal and frustrating. Please keep an eye out for them; they’re small but precious to my routine and memory.

Lost rabbits near Pearl Street Mall, Boulder

Yesterday at 4:35 p.m., I lost two rabbits while walking them along the Boulder Creek path near Pearl Street Mall in Boulder, Colorado. One is a brown lop named Nibbles; the other a gray speckled Dutch named Miso. They bolted when a dog barked and slipped from their harness in the busy pedestrian area. I miss their soft ears and their quiet companionship, and I’m anxious about their safety as the sun dips. If someone happens to spot them, I’d be grateful beyond words.
