Lost pet — how to find them fast

A fast, practical plan for finding a lost pet, plus the shelters and microchip registries to contact.

When a pet goes missing in Birmingham, speed and visibility are everything. Most lost pets are found close to home within the first day.

  1. Search the immediate area. Check nearby gardens, sheds, and quiet spots. Bring treats and a familiar item, and call calmly.
  2. Alert the microchip registry. Flag your pet as missing with the microchip database so your details are current if they're scanned.
  3. Call local shelters and vets. Phone shelters, pounds, and veterinary practices around Birmingham and ask them to note your pet's description.
  4. Post online and on lost-pet databases. Share clear photos in local community groups and lost-pet services.
  5. Put up visible notices. A simple poster with a photo, the area, and a contact number still works.
  6. Post a listing. Add a lost-pet listing for Birmingham so found-pet reports nearby surface alongside yours.

Tan French Bulldog, blue collar, lost

Yesterday around 3pm, Milo the tan French Bulldog slipped from his harness near the Bullring on Corporation Street and vanished into the side streets. He’s about 12 kg, compact and sturdy, with a bright blue collar and a small yellow bone-shaped tag that says 'MILO'. There’s a white heart-shaped patch on his chest and one ear that sits a little higher than the other. He’s microchipped and loves people, but can be wary of strangers. This dog is my world and I’m really hoping to find him soon—please text me if you see him, I’ll come right away with treats.

Lost dwarf hamster near Custard Factory, blue harness

I lost my white-and-fawn dwarf hamster yesterday around 3pm near the Custard Factory in Digbeth, Birmingham. His name is Niko, he’s tiny—about the size of a ping-pong ball—with soft fur and a bright blue harness with a tiny silver bell. He also has a small notch in his left ear, which is a unique feature. He's a rescue and means the world to me; I'm really worried and would be grateful if anyone who saw him nearby could message me.

Lost tabby cat with blue collar near Bullring

I lost my short-haired tabby cat, Milo, yesterday around 3pm near the Bullring Shopping Centre on High Street in Birmingham. He's medium-sized, with orange-brown stripes, a white chest patch, and green eyes, and he wears a blue collar with a small silver tag that reads Milo. He can be shy around strangers and might bolt if approached. This cat has sentimental value—I've had him since he was a kitten and he's my only pet; I’d really appreciate any help finding him.

Gray dwarf hamster with white belly

I lost my gray dwarf hamster, Milo, yesterday around 3pm near the Library of Birmingham on Broad Street. He's about the size of a ping-pong ball, with soft gray fur and a white belly, and a tiny pink nose. He has a faint crescent-shaped white patch on his right shoulder and a tiny lighter patch behind his left ear—easy to spot if you see him scurrying around. He was last seen in the living room, but I worry he slipped out when the door was opened and might be hiding under benches near the canal by Centenary Square or behind The Mailbox. I really need him back; he’s part of the family and we’ll offer a small reward.
